How To Clean Between The Glass Oven Door Panels

Cleaning your oven is probably not on your list of fun things to do. But this necessity must occur occasionally, if you want your kitchen to look the best it can. If you've cleaned your oven and still see streaks and stains on the glass, they're likely between the glass panes of the oven door. This guides provides the steps necessary to eliminate these streaks and stains with items you might already have in your home.

Step 1: Gather Your Supplies

  • a wire coat hanger
  • paper towels
  • glass cleaner
  • a pair of pliers
  • a rag

If you have glass-cleaning wipes, you can opt for those instead of the glass cleaner.

Step 2: Create Your Cleaning Tool

Unwind the wire coat hanger to create one long, relatively straight piece of wire. Spray some window cleaner on a paper towel.

If you're using glass-cleaning wipes, feel them to ensure they are still moist. Attach a fresh cleaning wipe, or the paper towel that you wet with the glass cleaner, to one end of the wire, and use the pliers to clamp the wire tightly around the wipe.

Optional: Make a small knot in the wipe or wrap the wire around it several times for a secure connection.

Step 3: Remove the Cover Underneath the Door

Remove the drawer under the oven door by pulling it out all the way off its track. If you do not have a drawer, the cover under the door should pop out of place with a gentle to moderate tug. Use your rag to clean any stray drippings or crumbs off both the drawer or cover, and the floor.

Step 4: Insert Your Tool and Clean The Glass

Directly under the glass door you will find several small openings. Insert the wire-wipe tool you created into an opening and work gently to wipe up and down between the two panes of glass. Repeat this process per each opening at the bottom of the oven door. Depending on the amount of grime, you may need to replenish your cleaning tool with a fresh cleaning wipe or paper towel.

Step back and look at the oven from various angles and repeat this step to catch any spots you may have missed. Replace the drawer or cover when you're happy with the cleanliness of the glass.

Expect this project to take only a few minutes, longer if the glass is especially dirty. Ask a cleaning service, like ALPS Professional Services, for help on your particular unit if you have any problems with these steps.
